Cambrios and Plextronics Join Forces to Improve OLED-based Solid State Lighting
The electronics materials companies will receive some funding from the DoE for this project
The two companies will work to develop a lower-cost, high performance material that could be used to improve the manufacturing and quality of OLED lighting products. Plextronics will supply its proprietary Plexcore® OC material, and this will be applied on top of Cambrios’ proprietary ClearOhm™ material. The lighting industry needs OLED lighting alternatives that are based on high-throughput, low-temperature manufacturing processes to reduce costs thus making the lighting more affordable.
NWN Note: Cambrios was founded in 2002 by Drs. Angela Belcher of MIT and Evelyn Hu of the University of California, Santa Barbara. According to the company website, “Their vision relied upon the use of nanostructured inorganic material, fabricated and shaped by biological molecules to create novel materials and processes for a variety of industries.” Dr. Angela Belcher will be a speaker at next month’s NNI Nanotechnology Innovation Summit, taking place December 8-10, in Washington, D.C.
