Nanotechnology Education Act Introduced to Congress

Representative David Wu of Oregon presented the bill in late January, and was co-sponsored by Representative Daniel Lipinksi of Illinois

The Nanotechnology Education Act would establish a grant program to assist high schools and universities create and expand nanotechnology educational programs and facilities to prepare students for careers in nanotechnology.  The bill stresses the importance of developing nano innovations at home, “In order to maximize the benefits of nanotechnology to individuals in the United States, the United States must maintain world leadership in the field, including nanoscience and microtechnology, in the face of determined competition from other nations.”

The bill also notes the far-reaching impact of nanotechnology on the US economy:  “Nanotechnology is likely to have a significant, positive impact on the security, economic well-being, and health of Americans as fields related to nanotechnology expand.”RSS feed of Nano World News
