Prime Minister of India Envisions Network of “Solar Valleys” For Country
‘Solar Valley’ concept is part of India’s national action plan on climate change
India officially unveiled its solar energy mission this month, with the country looking to generate 20,000 megawatts of electric power from the sun by 2020. Prime Minister Singh envisions the ‘solar valleys’ “…to become hubs for solar science, solar engineering and solar research, fabrication, and manufacturing.” To achieve the goals of the Indian government, the national action plan faces several challenges, including building more pilot plants, importing of crystalline silicon for scale-up work, and training more than 100,000 solar energy-knowledgeable technicians, scientists, and engineers.
