John Hofmeister to Keynote Nanotech 2007 & Cleantech 2007
Shell Oil President to Explore Global Energy Challenges, Alternatives and Use of Nanotechnology in Energy at Shell.
The Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI) announced the addition of John Hofmeister, President of Shell Oil Company to their heavy weight roster of conference speakers for Nanotech 2007, the nation’s largest nanotech conference and trade show.
“Mr. Hofmeister is truly an alternative fuels and conservation advocate,” said Bart Romanowicz, Executive Director of NSTI. “Nanotechnology is a tremendous enabler of advancements in alternative energy and we are excited to hear what Shell is doing. There is an obvious connection between nanotechnology and clean technologies like alternative energy but nano is also having a positive impact on making existing energy production methods by reducing their footprint and making them more sustainable. We think this is an important topic – the Cleantech and Nanotech scientists and engineers will benefit from the cross-pollination of ideas – we are inviting the Cleantech 2007 attendees to this joint-keynote.”
Mr. Hofmeister has spent the past year touring the country talking to groups about global energy challenges and alternatives to fossil fuels, key issues for the crude oil industry whose interest in energy efficiency and conservation was sparked by the dwindling supply of resources. In an interview, Mr. Hofmeister said, “We believe that by advocating a culture of conservation, we're going to the heart of the matter, which is the beliefs, the values and the behaviors of people when it comes to energy. Energy as we've seen in the last year, is at the end of the day, a scarce resource. Our call for culture change deals with technology and design. What technologies do we want to see use energy more efficiently?”
Mr. Hofmeister is a member of the Department of Energy's new Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technical Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and the Policy Committee of the American Petroleum Institute.
Founded with the unique mission of uniting the technology, business, and venture communities in spotlighting new research just coming out of the lab, Cleantech 2007 is produced by TechConnect.org.
The 10th annual Nanotech 2007 conference and Cleantech 2007 are collocated events and will be held May 21-24, 2007 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California.
