Theoretical modelling of nanofluids for heat transfer

In this talk we will discuss two uses of nanofluids for heat transfer: for cooling purposes and for absorbing solar thermal energy. In the first case we show that a popular theoretical model, which has been used by numerous researchers to show enhanced thermal transport in fact leads to the opposite result, namely that nanofluids do not show improved heat transfer when compared to the base fluid. In the second case we show that nanofluids can improve the absorption of solar energy and so increase the efficiency of solar thermal energy collectors.
