The TiO2 films due to their photocatalytic properties are widely used for coating of polymers to impart them with the self cleaning properties. Although the titania films were thoroughly studied earlier the development of simple and effective techniques for fixing of the photocatalytic TiO2 nanoparticles on the substrate still remains a challenge. Herein, we report on deposition of titania film on polycarbonate and parylene-coated glass by a one-step, ultrasound-assisted procedure. The TiO2 nanoparticles formed during hydrolysis of Ti(i-OPr)4 in solution were thrown to the solid surface by the sonochemical microjets and strongly anchored to the polymers substrate. The morphology and structure of the coated films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. The hydrophilic/hydrophobic properties were evaluated by measuring of water contact angle. The photocatalytic properties of the titania-modified polymers were estimated in the photo discoloration of methylene blue dye, and high activity in its bleaching was demonstrated. The obtained results demonstrated the efficiency of the ultrasound-assisted method for the uniform and stable deposition of titania on the polymeric substrate. The sonochemical coating is a simple one-step procedure without the use of any binding agent.
