In this contribution, we focus on the different approaches to dispersing Pt and Co/Pt core/shell nanoparticles in solution and then depositing them on representative catalyst supports. These include gold or highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) electrode surfaces. Specifically, we follow three different deposition protocols: A) solution deposition; B) directed solution deposition, and C) electrophoretic deposition of catalyst nanoparticles. Finally, we characterize the physicochemical properties of the catalysts surfaces by electrochemical methods (fuel cell testing) and electrochemical STM imaging.
