Template Synthesized Quasi-One Dimensional (Q1D) ZnO Nanowires and Their Characterization

In this paper, we report here the synthesis of ZnO nanowires (~100nm) by cathodic electrodeposition based on anodic alumina oxide (AAO) template from aqueous solution at low temperature (70oC). The nanowires were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and time resolved photoluminescence. Strong reflections corresponding to 100, 002, 101, 102 and 110 indicate the polycrystalline nature and wurtzite structure of ZnO nanowires. Room temperature photoluminescence study shows the strong visible emission at 590 nm (2.1 eV) which is attributed to defect related emission.
