Herein, we present colloidal seeded-growth approaches for synthesizing novel binary HNCs in which a single anisotropically shaped section of titanium dioxide (TiO2) is coupled to one or more domains of magnetic (e.g. iron oxide, FePt) and/or noble metal (e.g. Au, Pt) materials. These nanoheterostuctures represent highly functional nano-object that can exhibit enhanced and/or selective photocatalytic actions due to convenient manipulation of charge carrier destination via appropriate band alignment design, while providing the advantage of easy catalyst recycling via magnetically assisted recovery.
