Liquid crystals doped by magnetic nanoparticles

The aim of this study was to investigate how the shape of magnetic particles dispersed in the liquid crystal influences the critical magnetic field of structural changes. The experiment showed parallel initial orientation between liquid crystal director and magnetic moment of nanoparticles. The theoretical estimations confirmed the soft anchoring between liquid crystal molecules and magnetic particles in the case of the spherical magnetic particles and the rigid anchoring in the case of the rod-like and the chain-like magnetic particles.
