Characterization of ZnO Nanorod Arrays using Solution Chemical Method

The ZnO nanorods were synthesized on indium tin oxides (ITO) coated glass with a ZnO seed layer using the hydrothermal method. Effects of hexamethylenetetramine concentrations on the crystalline structure and surface morphology of ZnO nanorods were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to analyze crystalline characteristics and microstructures of the nanorods, respectively. The spectrophotometer and photoluminescence (PL) spectra were employed to characterize the optical properties of ZnO nanorod arrays. The bigger size and better photoluminescence characteristics would be obtained when ZnO nanorods synthesized using higher hexamethylenetetramine concentrations. Furthermore, a nanogenerator based on ZnO nanorods arrays has been fabricated in the investigation. The current-voltage characteristics with Schottky-like behavior of the nanogenerators were also discussed.
