Site-Directed Chemical Modification of Phage Particles

C.J. Noren
New England Biolabs, US

site-directed chemical modification, phage particles

Diverse composition of surface amino acid in filamentous phages allows running various chemical reactions on their surfaces to produce nanomaterials with new specific properties: fluorescent, biotin-, or radioactively labelled, cytotoxic, etc. Phage can be used also for conjugation of organic ligands to obtain genetically encoded organic libraries, can be labelled with gold nanobeads to obtain laser-activated therapeutics, conjugated with anticancer drugs to target them to the site of disease, etc. The report will discuss the reactivity and modification of phage particles.
