Synthesis and Caracterization of Carbon Nanofibers Using Oxy-Acetylene Flame

Motivated by the increasing demand in the academic and industrial sphere for carbon nanostructures with specific structural properties, efforts have being increased regarding the production and functionalization of this entities. The synthesis of oxy-acetylene flame results economic and produces carbon nanostructures of great structural quality as well as diverse morphologies that can be controlled by temperature and the type of catalyst particles. In this article, the synthesis and characterization of carbon nanofibers and nanotubes with the oxy-acetylene method over a Molybdenum substrate with Ni and Co as catalytic is reported. Straight, curved, Y-junction, spiral-like, and bamboo-like carbon nanofibers were obtained for synthesis temperatures within the interval of 900-1100C. Dispositions of graphenal planes with a high degree of “platelet” and “herrinbone” crystallographic organization were identified with HRTEM microscopy.
