Electrospun Nanocomposite of Nanoparticles in Nanofibers

Electrospinning is known to produce nanofibers of various polymer composition with ease, however the microscopic control of diameter, connection, bead, and surface morphology are still under investigation, and extensive effort has been devoted to increase its throughput by paralleling massive array of spinneret in vertical or horizontal configuration. We developed PVA nanofibers electrospun with nanoparticles like Fe3O4 and produce a magnetic thin film, also partially conductive PVA nanofibers by electrospun PVA with CNT. The nanoparticles are found to coagulate on the nanofiber surface, while CNT considerably changes the smooth surface of PVA nanofibers into an irregular diameter network with bead structure. The addition of nanoparticles adds extra application possibilities like sensors to nanofibers.
