Aqueous Dispersion of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by using Self-doped Polyaniline as Dispersant

In this research, a water-soluble self-doped polyaniline, poly(aniline N-butylsulfonate) (PAnBuS), was introduced to disperse SWNTs. Dispersion of SWNTs functionalized with PAnBuS was achieved ex-situ by simply mixing both components using ultrasonic treatment. The PAnBuS-functionalized SWNTs are highly dispersible in water, and form a stable homogeneous dispersion. The stability of aqueous SWNT dispersion was examined by UV-vis spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The interaction between self-doped polyaniline and SWNTs was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Also, the preparation of transparent conductive films (TCFs) by spray-coating of the aqueous SWNT dispersion was attempted, and the results were compared with those of TCFs obtained from aqueous SWNT dispersion by sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS).
