Adsorption of Colloid Gold Nanoparticles on Charged Surface

Colloid gold nanoparticles have many important applications, such as bio-molecular sensors and electronic devices. To fabricate the devices, one of the most significant processes is to assemble the gold nanoparticles on surface. In this work, we study the random sequential adsorption (RSA) properties of colloidal gold nanoparticles on surface with positively charged self-assembled monolayer. By comparing the results of experiment and 3D-RSA simulation, we can deduce the surface potential of nanoparticles. Besides, we also demonstrate that the saturation density and radial distribution of adsorbed nanoparticles can be well predicted from the 3D-RSA simulation. Since the diameter of gold nanoparticles is critical to many applications, we also study the relationship between the particle size and the surface potential of gold nanoparticles. These results will be advantageous on the understanding and control of self-assembly of nanoparticles on charged surface.
