Materials reporting is increasingly required for many substances and products. In addition to existing safe use laws, new international regulations and the global trade have resulted in most companies making product and substance declarations almost mandatory. In addition to increasing green manufacturing and the resulting eco-compliance, material compositions in products could also be used to track the sale and movement of dangerous substances for the purpose of security. As the scale of products and the parts that comprise them become smaller in size and greater in complexity, such material composition declarations will facilitate the safe movement, use, sale and disposal of products comprising of complex parts of many substances. This requires that the material composition computation methods be efficient so that they can be used by all manufacturers, large and small, in an economical manner. In addition to the compositions of such products, data about their safe use, movement and disposal should also be efficiently exchanged. The manner in which such data can be exchanged in a multi enterprise integration setting will be discussed.
