It is presumed that the polymerization of fullerene molecules as nanowhiskers or nanotubes will result enhancement in the conductivity of the fullerene molecule. Our earlier studies on conductivity of fullerene nanowhiskers shows, a whisker of C60 with a diameter of 8 ?m has a resistivity of about 105 ? cm. Whereas, the pristine C60 crystals have the resistivity value in the range of 108 to 1014 ? cm. Recently, we have shown that decrease in the tube diameter will decrease the electrical resistivity and heat treated fullerenes nanowhiskers further enhance the conductivity of the materials. In our present study, the transition metal ions like, Fe, Co, Ni etc have incorporated in to the inside tubular voids of the fullerene nanowhiskers/nanotubes during the polymerization of fullerene molecules using liquid-liquid interface. The transition metal ion concentration has been varied to study the impact of metal ion incorporation in the conductivity of the fullerene nanowhiskers/nanotubes. This presentation will focus on the structure and conductivity of various transition metal ion incorporated fullerene nanowhiskers/nanotubes.
