Three-Dimensional Transient Motion of Spherical and Deformable Droplet in L-Shaped Rectangular Microchannel

Three-dimensional transient motion of spherical and small deformable droplet in an L-shaped rectangular channel is investigated numerically. The methodology employed is front tracking coupled with the parallel adaptive refinement meshing code, referred as PARAMESH. The objective is to obtain the fundamental understanding of the interaction mechanism between fluid flow, droplet deformation and droplet interaction. This is an essential knowledge for an accurate control and manipulation of droplet in microfluidic devices. The simulation results show that droplets with different Bond numbers exhibit different trajectories. At higher value of Bond number, the droplet has higher tendency to be move alongside with the wall.
