Investigation of the Conductance of Silicon Nanowire Biosensors Using the 2D Drift-diffusion Model

DNA-FETs are DNA sensors consisting of a semiconductor transducer and a functionalized surface. Their device structure is similar to a MOSFET, but the gate has been replaced by the functionalized surface. Since DNA-FETs allow direct and label-free operation, they offer several advantages compared to optical detection methods, e.g. real-time and continuous operation. Most importantly, however, read-out circuitry can be integrated into the device in a straight-forward manner. In this study simulated conductance results and the respective experimental values are compared. The good agreement between simulation and experiment enables us to predict and optimize the sensitivity of the DNA sensors.
