2007 NSTI Nanotechnology Conference and Trade Show - Nanotech 2007 - 10th Annual

Molecular Identification of the CRAC Channel

M. Harara
University of California, Irvine, US

Transplant rejections, autoimmune disease, multiple sclerosis, type I diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis.

The Calcium Release-Activated Calcium (“CRAC”) channel was shown to be missing or defective in patients with severe combined immune deficiency. When the gates of calcium ion channels open, calcium floods the cell, which leads to the accumulation of a transcription factor in the nucleus. Such accumulation activates gene transcription.
