Direct Electrochemical Reduction of CuO Nano Particles to Cu Nano Particles in NaCl Solution

Copper nanoparticles are widely used material. However many reactive metals are difficult to produce without complex and expensive procedures. For low cost and mass production, the electrochemical reduction is a convenient technique to manufacture metal nanoparticles. But the existing techniques carried out in molten salts at high temperature are not suitable for nanoparticle production. Proposed technique in our research is a new method for producing copper nanoparticles and can be applies to other metal oxide in industry. Owing to its easy and quick routes, this method can overcome environmental and economical disadvantages of previos methods. 0.5M NaCl solution was used for reducing CuO to Cu and a conventional three electrode cell was used with copper as the working electrode, platinum mesh as the counter electrode and a SCE as the reference electrode.
