Framework for Quantitative Exposure Assessment of Nanostructured Materials in Occupational Settings

The purpose of this work was to provide a framework for assessing potential for risk and exposure to nanostructured materials in occupational settings. In doing so, we evaluated the characteristics of amorphous silica and carbon black relevant to toxicity and exposure, and identified the best equipment available for conducting exposure assessment in a manufacturing setting (e.g. the tire industry). This basic framework could be applied to a variety of industries where nanostructured materials are currently in use to identify the need for risk management.
