The fundamental goal of this study is to present effects on the material AISI with one of the micro-machining methods in modern security printing technology, such card production, needle tip engraving. This method is basically known but processes and effects in the metals are still subject of investigations. In general engraving with a hard-pointed diamond “needle” in sheet metal plate provides micro scratches in the material. Quality of the structure and accuracy are based upon the process parameters. To improve quality and avoid needle-tip breakage, the tool press load, engraving speed, tool diameter and number of tool passes must be studied. The desired surface shape is provided by the choice of the following parameters: needle-tip diameter, needle-tip load, horizontal tool speed and number of needle-tip passes. All these parameters which determine the line width, depth and engraved structure (roughness) will be considered in this study.
