Decomposition of methanol (DM) to CO and H2 can be catalyzed by Cu-ZnO@C core-shell nanoreactors. It is found that reactivity of DM catalyzed by the nanoreactors increase with an increase in the fractions of ZnO in Cu-ZnO encapsulated in carbon shell. The nanoreactors seem to have a better reactivity for DM mainly due to a highly increasing of collision frequency in the confined space in nanoreactors. By component fitted X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES), it seems that metallic copper (Cu) plays the promoter role during DM.
