The Effect of Surface Treatment on The Line Formation of Inkjet-Printed Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract:Printing technologies have emerged as a promising technique to realize low-cost integrated circuits. Among several printing techniques, drop-on-demand inkjet printing is an attractive tool for low-cost electronics fabrication. Inkjet printing can generate patterns of metal, semiconductor, or insulator by jetting ink drops on a substrate at desired locations. In the fabrication of electronic device, the part which inkjet printing is mainly applied is the formation of conductive line pattern through conductive polymer and metal nanoparticle ink. Ideal inkjet-printed lines should be even, narrow, and straight. However, in order to form the line with above characteristics, the control of various parameters is required. In this study, according to surface treatment of substrate, we investigated how the change of contact angle and overlap of single drop have an effect on the width and shape of inkjet-printed line pattern. In order to find out the relationship between single drop width and line width and contact angle, experimental results are compared with the geometrical calculations of single drop width and line width.
