In this proposal, the application of MEMS technology with a focus on RF applications in the design of next generation mobile terminal is taken up. RF MEMS switches have displayed excellent RF characteristics, including lower insertion loss, higher isolation, zero power consumption, small size and weight and very low inter-modulation distortion, and long battery life. It is desirable for a single device to access the additional several services like DCS, PCS, GSM, EGSM, CDMA, WCDMA, GPS, Wi-Fi, Wi-MAX, UMTS, Bluetooth, 802.11a, and 802.11b bands at anytime and anyplace has lead to the current efforts towards integration of different wireless access technologies. The main objective of this proposal is to design and fabricate reconfigurable RF MEMS switches for adaptive RF front end section to increase efficiency and sensitivity, and to reduce size as well as cost of future mobile phones.Integration of MEMS technology with various circuit elements such as CMOS devices is possible with the help of ASIMPS (Application Specific MEMS Processes).
