In-situ Growth of Gold Nanoparticles Conductive Layer on Plastic Film as an Integrated Lead Ions Sensor

Abstract:In this work, an in-situ chemical growth method was reported for grafting patterned gold nanoparticles (GNPs) conductive layers on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. This in-situ grown gold nanoparticle film could be used as a sensing materials for lead ions (Pb2+) and a sensitive Pb2+ sensor based on this GNPs film has been developed. This sensor is proved to possess electrochemical performances as good as screen-printed sensor. Compared with the screen print methods which always require special print equipments and are often restricted to planar substrates, the in-situ growth method proposed in our manuscript can form dense and uniform conductive layers on various substrates (e.g., glass, metal and polymer materials), regardless of the shape or size of substrates; Moreover, this simple method, together with template-based screen techniques, is able to form patterned conductive layers on substrates to produce low-cost functional electrochemical sensor with special designs.
