Nanoparticle release from nano-containing product, introduction to an energetic approach

Abstract:The use of nanoparticles in manufactured products becomes more and more frequent and could lead to new potential risks for the workers, the consumers and the environment. This study focused on the R&D process of a nano-structured part. The stress operated during this process was reproduced into a nanosecurised facility, in order to characterize possible release of nanoparticles from the product. It appears that the release of nanoparticle is proportional to the energy applied on the surface, which can be defined as a first indicator for studying the particle release mechanism. The comparison is made for three energy levels. The maximum particle concentration was around 10 p/cc for scratching operation, 380 p/cc while sawing and above 100.000 p/cc while sanding. Stress tests operated on a standard part induce also a release of nanoparticles
