| Abstract: | The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is establishing a new national test facility in Boulder, Colorado to evaluate the mechanical properties of materials proposed to store, transport, and distribute hydrogen fuels. Many of these materials, especially conventional pipeline and pressure vessel steels, are likely to become embrittled due to extended exposure to high-pressure hydrogen gas. Accurate data on these materials are needed under simulated operational conditions to ensure reliable design of fuel infrastructure. The new NIST facility will provide this information. |
