In this paper, we have realized a bowtie antenna for UHF RFID Tag with extended round corners for the first time printed on paper substrate. The state of the art CAD tool Ansoft® HFSS is used for design and simulations. Then the design was inkjet printed on paper of thickness 70 µm using nano Silver particle-based ink. The paper used for printing is even cheaper than photo-paper. The smaller area covered by the antenna lowered the amount of ink used for these traces thus reducing the material cost. One of the main challenges in this work is to design an antenna for the UHF RFID band (860MHz – 930MHz) with lowest possible area while overcoming constrains imposed by extremely thin layer and low conductive ink, without compromising on antenna performance. The novel bowtie antenna with extended rounded corners and T-matching network presented covers the entire UHF RFID band to be used worldwide. The antenna features outstanding performance even though the reported conductivity of the ink-resultant film (12.5x10e6 S/m) is 5 times lower than that of the bulk silver. The antenna has significant prospective to be used in small, extremely cheap solutions where read range and/or high data transfer rate is essential.
