Production of Nanoparticles Sizes of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) by Wet Comminution with DYNO-MILL

Authors:S. Goldberg, N. Roskosch

Pages:733 - 736
Keywords:wet milling, size reduction, bead milling, API nanoparticles, comminution, DYNO-MILL
Abstract:The production of nanoparticles in the size range of 13nm has been achieved using the DYNO®-MILL bead mill. Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) are able to be absorbed by the body’s cells when of a size small enough to mimic “soluble” drug adsorption through the cell walls. These minute particles have been achieved by users of the DYNO®-MILL (W. A. Bachofen AG, Basel, Switzerland) b y employing specialized process conditions and advanced equipment construction. The use of zirconium oxide based ceramic parts, tight tolerances on machine components, and grinding media (beads) below 500mm is revealed. This technology now allows for the production of nanosized API’s on a commercial scale.
