Chapter 4: Biomarkers & Nanoparticles

An Investigation of Cellular Toxicity of Carbon Nanomaterials in African American Breast Cancer Cells

Authors:T. Taylor, D. Dean, R. Troy and P.M. Leggett-Robinson
Affilation:Tuskegee University, US
Pages:345 - 347
Keywords:cytotoxicity, functionalized carbon nanomaterials
Abstract:Functionalized CNTs and CNFs are attractive not only because they are theoretically easier to disperse in organic solvents and water, but also because there is some evidence that these modifications may enhance solubility and/or decrease cytotoxicity in biomedical applications. The cellular toxicity of CNTs and CNFs were tested in vitro on breast cancer cells. Cell survival and attachment assays were evaluated with different concentrations of unmodified and modified CNTs and CNFs.
