Thermal conductivity enhancement of carbon nanotube composites

Authors:F. Deng and Q.-S. Zheng

Abstract:Simple models for the thermal conductivity enhancements of carbon nanotube (CNT) composites are presented as analytical functions of volume fraction, anisotropic thermal conductivities, aspect ratio, non-straightness, and interfacial thermal resistance of the CNTs. The model predictions agree well with the measured thermal conductivities of CNT composites. It is shown that using CNTs with higher aspect ratio and straightness ratio is efficient to improve thermal conductivity enhancement of CNT composites. The models are further extended to account for the effects of either random or aligned orientation of the CNTs and the interaction among CNTs on the thermal conductivity of CNT composites.
