Education in Nanotechnology through Microscopy Made Easy

Authors:M. Gullo
Affilation:Nanosurf AG, CH
Pages:626 - 626
Keywords:education, nanotechnology, stm, afm, spm, easyscan, nanosurf
Abstract:An essential goal of education in nanotechnology is an understanding of scale and metrology, of instrumentation and fundamental physics. Easy to use and affordable instrumentation is indispensable in reaching this goal. Nanosurf offers both STM and AFM that have been developed with three criteria in mind: ease of use, affordability, and portability. These characteristics allow both easy classroom demonstrations and more sophisticated exploration of nanometer-sized structures in student labs. The Nanosurf easyScan STM has been sold over 700 times at the time of writing, increasing its popularity with the launch of the new easyScan 2 line, which with its modular design responds even better to the original requirements. Users include universities on all continents and development continues in close relation with renowned universities such as in particular the University of Basel, where the founders of Nanosurf met in the H.-J. Güntherodt group. Nanosurf also stays in touch with the needs of nanotechnology education by regularly organizing a Teaching Scanning Probe Microscopy and Nanotechnology Seminar. In this presentation we will show practical examples of use of the Nanosurf easyScan 2 modular SPM system as an ideal supplement for teaching and training in Nanotechnology.
