| Abstract: | We have studied the synthesis of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles functionalized with crosslinked dextran for magnetocytolysis application using human colon cancer cells (CaCo-2). Size of the magnetite nanoparticles was determined by SQUID, XRD, and TEM measurements, yielding a value of 7-9 nm. Magnetite/crosslinked dextran nanoparticles were found to be non cytotoxic to CaCo-2 cells in the absence of an AC magnetic field. Application of 1.0 kHz 3.0 kA/m magnetic field resulted in a reduction in cell viability to 40 % after 45 min of application. |
