Abstract:in this, effect of number of washing on the characteristic of copper oxide catalyst has been carried out. The samples were prepared by precipitation of copper (II) nitrate trihydrate with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The precipitates formed were washed with cold deionized water at 50 ml per wash. 6 series of samples were obtained and designated as CuO1, CuO2, CuO3, CuO4, CuO5, and CuO6, with the integer refers to number of washing. All the samples were calcined in air at 723 K for 4 h. Results showed that the BET total surface area of the sample increases as number of washing increased. H2-TPR displayed temperature of maximum moved towards lower reduction temperature as number of washing increases , which indicates the ease of reducibility of the oxide when the precursors is washed several times. XRD patterns showed the samples are highly crystalline. The powders obtained are of uniform size distribution, finely grained with an average size of 20 nm.
