Fulcrum designs Ethernet switch silicon for network providers that serve data centers
The latest acquisition announcement is part of a larger Intel strategy to become a global leader in cloud computing. Fulcrum’s switch silicon provides high performance, low latency, and workload balancing, which Intel pans to marry with its processors and Ethernet controllers. 1 Gigabet Ethernet (10GbE) networks is a fast-growing market, as demands for cloud computing rises amongst various industries, including financial services, technology, and web-focused markets. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and the deal looks to be completed in Q3 2011.
