Europe’s EasyJet Looks to Nanotechnology for Fuel Savings
Feb 17, 2011
Nano-acrylic liquid treatment has been applied to the exteriors of eight aircraft
EasyJet hopes that the lightweight, novel polish applied to their planes’ exteriors will reduce fuel burn through reducing the build-up of dirt and thus lowering drag. The polish contains nano-based polymer that fill the tiniest grooves and pits in the top paint layer of a surface, whic prevents debris collection and creates a smooth, more aerodynamic surface. The nano-enabled liquid treatment is expected to reduce fuel consumption by 1-2%. The eight EasyJet planes will test the coating for the next year and track the results.
