Boston unveils plans for “Innovation District”

Mayor Menino and city plan to transform the South Boston Waterfront and the Marine Industrial Park into a hub for innovation

To help spur the growth of the Innovation District, venture capital firm Spencer Trask & Co. will launch a start-up competition this summer, rewarding $25,000 to a business that locates in the Innovation District. The Mayor has plans to give tours of the future District to university and hospital leaders this summer, and Mayor Menino also announced that requests for proposals for two parcels of land would be issued in the near future.
