NC State University Develops Novel “Smart Sensors”

Sensors to be designed to operate under extreme conditions, such as those found in defense and security situations

The research team from North Carolina State University integrated vanadium oxide, a sensor material, and integrated it onto a silicon chip. By not having to be connected to a computer, the mobile “smart sensor” can interpret and respond quickly to information in its environment. These research findings were just published last month; the research team includes Dr. Jay Narayan, Dr. Roger Narayan, and PhD students Tsung Han Yang, Ravi Aggarwal, A. Gupta, and H. Zhou. The project received funding from the NSF.
