US Senators Introduce Bill to Promote Nanotechnology in Education
Mar 15, 2010
The “Promote Nanotechnology in Schools Act” would encourage students to learn about nanotechnology and offer training for nanotech jobs
Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) introduced the “Promote Nanotechnology in Schools Act” this month. Senator Wyden currently serves as co-chair of the Senate Nanotechnology Caucus. The Bill looks to increase the domestic workforce for nanoscale technologies. Bill S.3117 would direct the NSF to establish a grant program to academic institutions to purchase nanotechnology equipment and materials; in turn, each participating school would have to match the NSF grant by at least 25% of the total grant amount. All nanotech equipment would be required to be manufactured in the US or at least 50% of its composition sourced from the US.
