Egypt Researchers Focus on Novel Ways to Harness Power of the Sun

American University of Cairo developing methods to produce renewable fuels and electricity directly from the sun.

Nageh Allam, assistant professor of nanotechnology and renewable energy in the Department of Physics, is leading the research efforts at the American University of Cairo (AUC). Dr. Allam's solar power research will include the use of nanomaterials to harvest the sunlight for production of clean fuel (hydrogen), and for converting the sunlight to electricity through solar cells. Dr. Allam is in the process of designing a photo-electrochemical system to carry out his research goals, and he is also establishing the Energy Materials Laboratory on the campus of AUC. The new Lab will be available for use by students and partners of AUC.
