Toshiba Announces Launch of 64 GB Embedded NAND Flash Memory Module
Flash memory device is the highest capacity to be achieved in the industry
The chip is the lead device in a new line of six embedded NAND flash memory modules that have been designed for consumer product applications, including cell phones and digital cameras. The 64 gigabyte chip was jointly developed by Toshiba Corporation and Toshiba America Electronics Components, Inc. The new device combines sixteen pieces of 32Gbit NAND chips using Toshiba's proprietary 32nm process technology, and has also integrated a dedicated controller. Toshiba is the first company to succeed in combining 16 pieces of 32Gbit NAND chips that are only 30 micrometers thick. Mass production of the 64 GB chip will begin Q1 2010.
