Could Bugs Hold the Key to More Eco-Friendly Detergents?

Fraunhofer-DE Researchers Studying Bugs and Fungi to Engineer Novel Surfactants
Unlike current synthetic options for eco-friendly cleaners, biological surfactants are 100% biodegradable, produce less toxins, and good at loosening stains. Due to expensive production costs for low yield, biological surfactants are being used in just a handful of products and cosmetics. Researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB, DE, are currently working on maximizing the production process of the bio-based surfactants to bring down production costs.
