Researchers at National University of Singapore Create Energy-Storing Membrane

Proprietary membrane could perform better than traditional batteries and be more cost effective
The research team was led by Dr. Xie Xian Ning from the National University of Singapore’s Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative. The researchers created the bendable membrane using a polystyrene-based polymer. When the membrane is placed between two charged metal plates, it can store a much higher charge than current standard capacitors, such as those found in rechargeable batteries. The flexibility and low fabrication costs of the novel membrane make it an attractive power source for potential applications that include hybrid vehicles, solar panels, and wind turbines.
