HeiQ was founded in 2005, based on the research of co-founder, Murray Height, while a post doc at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH Zurich and Ph.D student at MIT. HeiQ has developed a continuous, gas-phase process to produce amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO2) scaffold particles with typical particle dimensions of 100 nm to 1000 nm that contain metallic nanoparticles. It is currently focused on silver nanoparitlces (5 nm to 20 nm in diameter) embedded in the SiO2 matrix, for a range of antimicrobial applications including medical devices, antimicrobial coatings and functional textiles.

HeiQ informs Nano World News that, “In medical applications, Mr. Centonze expects to launch an antimicrobial healthcare coating product this year (with an undisclosed partner), and a medical device application in 2009 with German medical device company B. Braun. In textiles, HeiQ and partner RadiciGroup are planning to launch their Nanofeel product – an antibacterial polyester - for sportswear and intimate apparel in early 2008.

HeiQ recently closed a Series A round with investors including Zürcher Kantonalbank and an undisclosed wealth management company. This year, the company is planning a Series B round.
