Sweet Power develops MEMS and Nanotechnology based fuel cells for powering implantable medical device applications including neuro-stimulation, diabetes monitoring, and drug delivery. The fuel cells use glucose in human blood to generate electricity, resulting in a self-sustaining power source that potentially will never have to be replaced.

NWN recently heard from the company that as of February 1, Mr. Thomas Ahn now serves as CEO of Sweet Power. Mr. Siva Angappan, former CEO, will continue to be active in the company, and is also one of the major shareholders.

The company estimates its target market size for implantable device power supply to $1 billion per year in 2007. The market size for implantable medical devices is estimated to be more than $20 billion, growing at an annual rate of 10-15%.

Sweet Power was a winner of the 2007 Clean Tech Ventures Early Stage Company award in Santa Clara, CA, and it welcomes additional investors.
