Florida State University Professor’s Technology Catches Attention of Energy Company

Bing Energy, Inc. enters into commercialization agreement with FSU for exclusive rights to technology

Professor Jim Zheng at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering has developed a novel material that could reduce the need for costly platinum components in hydrogen fuel cells. The PEMFC technology was first developed for military and spacecraft applications at GE. However, the development of the technology was expanded to include advanced power application for everything from laptops to cars. As part of the Bing Energy-FSU agreement, Professor Zheng’s research team will produce prototypes of fuel cells employing the proprietary carbon nanotube membranes. Bing Energy will evaluate the CNTs for effectiveness and assess their potential for mass-production.
