EU to Invest $8.3 Billion Towards Research and Innovation

Research organizations, universities, and small to mid-size companies are eligible for funding grants.

The $8+ Billion investment is the EU’s largest commitment to date towards R&D and innovation. In the official announcement, Research Commissioner Ms. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn anticipated that around 16,000 would receive funding, and that the awards would be given out over the next year. In addition, 35 percent of the budget will be earmarked for areas including health, biotechnology, nanotechnology and the environment. The Commission specifically wants researchers to focus on solutions for challenges related to climate change, energy and food security, health, and the aging population.
