GM to Double Size of its Battery Lab in Michigan

Auto giant to spend $8 million to accelerate development & expertise for electric vehicles and advanced battery technology

General Motors plans to double the size of its Global Battery Systems Lab from 33,000 sq. ft. to more than 60,000 sq. ft. The Battery Systems Lab is housed on GM’s Technical Center campus, and the lab tests battery cells and packs for electric-powered and hybrid vehicles. The company will expand its lab for battery technology due to the relatively high costs to develop and create novel battery technology, and also reflects GM’s gradual transition from a technology buyer to now a developer of new technologies.
